Confessions of a Craft Party Host: Things I Never Thought I’d Say

Running a creative gathering business is a dream come true—but let me tell you, it comes with some very unexpected moments. Sure, there's the joy of helping someone discover their inner artist, the laughter, the bonding, the sparkle in someone’s eyes when they realize “Hey, I actually made this!”
And then there’s… the rest.
In the spirit of full transparency (and a little entertainment), here are just a few things I’ve found myself saying out loud during paint and craft parties—sentences I never thought would come out of my mouth before this gig.
1. “Please don’t eat the paint. It’s not frosting.”
Look, I get it—when we’re working with cute little paint pots and pretty colors, it’s easy to get confused. But I promise: none of it is edible, no matter how much it looks like birthday cake icing.
2. “Glitter goes on the canvas, not the dog.”
Yes, your furry friend is adorable. No, they do not need to be bedazzled. (Also, glitter is forever, so now your dog is basically a disco ball.)
3. “It’s not a mistake—it’s abstract!”
One of my favorite things to say, and it's always true. That “oops” you just made? It might be the best part of your piece. Embrace the creative chaos!
4. “We don’t lick the paintbrushes here.”
This is a no-judgment zone, but if I had a dollar for every time someone absentmindedly stuck a paintbrush in their mouth like a pencil... let’s just say I’d be buying very fancy coffee.
5. “Yes, that’s glitter in your hair. No, it’s not coming out.”
Glitter is the gift that keeps on giving. You'll be sparkling for days, and honestly, you're welcome.
6. “Wine glasses go on the table—not the paint tray.”
We don’t serve drinks at our studio, but when you’re hosting at home, just trust me: keep the Merlot away from the magenta. Unless you want an accidental watercolor effect.
Moral of the Story?
Hosting a craft party is equal parts creativity and comedy. You never know what’s going to happen—but that’s half the fun. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or someone who still draws stick figures with pride, there’s always a place for you at the table.
So come for the crafts, stay for the laughs—and maybe, just maybe, leave with a little glitter in your soul (and your hair).
